What people leave Sondo for
Read the Sondo review for the detail; the short version from 75 Trustpilot reviews (1.4 / 5) is: fixing a result means paying for another generation, the entry plan (800 credits a week) can't finish one 3-minute video, and getting money back for app-store purchases is hard. Any alternative should be judged on those three points first and on visual quality second — the models underneath most tools are the same handful of vendors.
The comparison
| Tool | How it works | Price per 3-min video | Fix one scene? | Failed generations | Rights |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| HeyBop | Upload or generate a song → beat analysis → AI shot list → every scene generated → cut to the beat | 3-minute generation budget: Lite 860–1,220 credits; approximately $14.97–$20.98 in generation top-ups from a zero balance; Standard 2,015–2,870 credits; approximately $34.93–$44.99 in generation top-ups from a zero balance. Photo, singing and export rights are separate. | Yes, a plain 6-second Standard clip uses 95 credits (40 on Lite) | Auto-refunded | Commercial export with a release-ready purchase, same-project upgrade or membership; generation top-ups alone do not grant it |
| Sondo | Upload song + prompt → whole video | ≈ 1,834–1,953 credits ≈ $14–24 by plan ($9.99/week, $29.99/week or $59.99/year) | Reviewers say fixes are billed as new generations | Refunded (tasks you cancel are not) | Per Sondo terms |
| Suno Hooks | Pair a Suno song with your own clips + captions | Free (no generation) | n/a | n/a | Suno licence; free tier non-commercial |
| Freebeat | Paste a Suno link or upload → AI director plans and generates beat-synced shots, up to 6 minutes | ≈ $5–10 in credits on Pro, by Freebeat's own guide | Yes, per shot (costs credits) | No policy stated; only unused subscriptions refundable | You own outputs; free credits non-commercial |
| Individual clips + a video editor | Generate clips one by one, cut manually | $6–15 in model fees + 3–6 hours of editing | Yes, manually | Per vendor | Per vendor |
1. HeyBop — the one-click flow with the price on the button
Sign up and get 150 credits. Script generation is free (0 credits). Review your script before creating 3 storyboard images. Images and videos use credits. One-time short video: USD 4.99 once · 300 credits. 15s standard video with a watermark. Personal use. First video only; no auto-renewal. Release-ready video: USD 9.99 once · 600 credits. Turn your song into a 30-second music video in Standard quality. Ready to share, watermark-free, with commercial rights for this project. 600 credits included. No subscription or auto-renewal. Add credits to extend the same video and keep its export rights. Pay USD 5.00 to upgrade your short video: 300 extra credits and watermark-free commercial export for the same project. Membership: USD 7.99/week · 600 credits; USD 29.99/month · 2,600 credits. ≈ USD 6.92/week · save 13%. Weekly equivalent based on 12 months / 52 weeks. Billed monthly. Watermark-free commercial exports. Credits arrive on each paid renewal. Weekly or monthly auto-renewal. Cancel anytime. Completed licensed works keep their rights. Existing subscriptions keep their terms. Extra generation credits: USD 4.99 once · 300 credits; USD 15.99 once · 1,000 credits; USD 44.99 once · 3,000 credits. Credits never expire. Top-ups pay for generation; they do not unlock watermark-free or commercial exports. No new annual plans. Standard quality, one song and up to one singing shot. Extra attempts and higher quality use more credits; review the quote before generating.
2. Suno Hooks — free, but it is not a video generator
If your song lives in Suno, Hooks lets you pair it with a clip you already have and add captions. Suno itself describes it as "a way to pair songs with their clips and shape short videos" that "isn't meant to create scenes from prompts" (Suno hub). Great for a 15-second teaser from phone footage; not a replacement for a music video. See Does Suno make music videos?.
3. Freebeat and other Suno-link converters
Freebeat takes a Suno link (or YouTube, SoundCloud or a file) and its AI director plans and generates a beat-synced video up to 6 minutes long, with an optional character from your photo. Its own guide puts a 3-minute video at about $5–10 in credits on the Pro plan ($26.99/month); free videos are capped at 30 seconds, watermarked and non-commercial, and its refund policy covers only completely unused subscriptions (Freebeat, pricing). See HeyBop vs Freebeat for the full comparison, and read the rights section of any tool before publishing anything commercial.
4. A general video model plus an editor
Making individual clips gives you control over each shot. You still need to write the prompts, check the clips and cut them to the beat in a video editor. Budget time for that work as well as generation.
5. A human editor with stock and AI B-roll
Still the right answer for a flagship single with a label budget. Expect $300–2,000 and one to two weeks, and expect the editor to use the same AI tools for B-roll.
How to choose
- Release-day video for TikTok/Reels/Shorts on a budget → HeyBop's 30-second video (pay before generation) or a full video (with its credit quote shown before generating).
- You already shot footage → Suno Hooks or CapCut.
- You need shot-level art direction and have an afternoon → general model + editor.
- You have a budget and a deadline that is not tomorrow → human editor.
Preguntas frecuentes
What is the cheapest Sondo alternative?+
The lowest cost depends on your length, supplied footage, replacement attempts and required licence. Suno Hooks uses footage you already have. Script generation is free (0 credits). The one-time short video is $4.99 for 15 seconds with a watermark and personal use, first video only. The release-ready purchase is $9.99 for 30 seconds in Standard quality with watermark-free commercial export for that project. Neither is a full-song price or an auto-renewing subscription. Longer versions and extra attempts can need more credits. For a full generated song video, review the actual quote and compare current options rather than assuming a fixed per-video price.
Can I move my Sondo project to HeyBop?+
Bring the song (MP3/WAV) and your concept text; HeyBop rebuilds the storyboard from the beat grid. Generated Sondo videos cannot be imported for editing.
Which alternative keeps the same character across shots?+
HeyBop (reference photo on every scene), Freebeat (your own photo as a consistent character) and manual workflows with a general model that supports reference images. Sondo reviews list character switching as a common problem.
Do any of these refund failed generations automatically?+
HeyBop does, and Sondo refunds failed generations too (not tasks you cancel). Freebeat's refund policy covers only unused subscriptions, and vendor APIs generally do not refund.
